Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 6432
19th century French Chalice and Paten in ornate Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
Both pieces were made by Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824-1899), one of the most highly respected French Ecclesiastical Silversmiths in the second half of the 19th century, he worked in Paris.
Poussielgue-Rusand made many high quality pieces of Church Silver, and both these pieces bear his maker's mark.
Both Chalice & Paten are made from solid silver, hallmarked with the French silver mark and gilded all over.
The Calix has images of the three virtues: Faith, Hope & Charity. In between these images are Eucharistic symbols of wheat, grapes & bullrushes.
The large knop has three pairs of raised cherub heads and other decorative work.
Around the base are three large standing figures of winged angels, each individually made.
Scenes on the base depict Washing the Disciples feet, The Transfiguration and The Crucifixion.
The base has an unusual trefoil shaped design. Work on the panels incorporates the Eucharistic symbols of Wheat, Grapes and Bullrushes.
In between these are the symbols of the Passion including the whip, ladder, nails, lance.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The centre of Paten has a large image of the Last Supper, surrounded with fine beading work and engraving.
Chalice Height 33.5cm. Base diameter 19cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 19.5cm. Overall weight 1,300g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
