Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 7357
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver.
The Chalice was made by the French silversmith Dejean who worked in Paris from 1846 onwards. It has the maker's mark on the Chalice.
Both Chalice & Paten are made from solid silver and both bear French Silver hallmarks of the 19th century.
The Calix has three oval raised images depicting the Holy Family, set in Baroque style decoration.
The main cup underneath the calix is gilded, providing a two-tone effect to the finish.
The central large knop is rich in decoration, with images of The Holy Family set in niches, surrounded with rich baroque decoration.
The circular base has three large images depicting The Garden of Gethsemane, The Way of the Cross & The Crucifixion.
The base is finished with further rich decoration, and has a shaped edge to finish it.
The Paten with this Chalice is made in solid silver gilt, by the French Silversmith Basnier, who worked in Paris in the early 19th century, Dejean being his successor.
The Paten has the French silver hallmark of the period and the maker's mark. The Paten has a large central image of The Last Supper.
Chalice Height 33.5cm. Base diameter 17.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 17cm. Overall weight 1,025g.
Complete with brand ned lined, fitted carrying case.
