Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 8381
19th century French ornate Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice and Paten were made in France by Alexander and Marie Thierry, a family of silversmiths who worked in Paris in the second half of the 19th century. The Chalice dates from this period.
The Chalice and Paten have the French silver hallmark of the period, and both pieces also bear their maker's mark.
The Calix has three raised images depicting Our Lord, Our Lady and St John. Between these are large bunches of wheat and grapes.
The ornate stem leads to the large knop. This has three large raised bunches of grapes, with bulrushes below.
The shaped trefoil base has three sections. These are The Pious Pelican, The Agnus Dei with Seven Seals, and the Crucifix. The Crucifix is made entirely in diamonds.
Between these are raised baroque style decoration.
The edge of the base has three baroque decoration all round.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The centre of Paten has a large raised scene of The Last Supper.
Chalice Height 31.5cm. Base diameter 17cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 17.5cm. Overall weight 1,007g.
Complete with brand new lined carrying case.
