Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 8433
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice and Paten were made in France by Louis Bachelet, who was a highly renowned silversmith of this period, working in Paris between 1844 and 1877.
The Chalice and Paten have the French silver hallmark of the period, and both pieces also bear the maker's mark.
The Calix has three oval roundels depicting Our Lord, St Peter and St Paul. Between these are Eucharistic symbols of Grapes, Wheat and bulrushes.
The highly decorative circular stem has a large central knop. This has three raised winged Cherub heads, with Eucharistic symbols of Grapes, Wheat & Bulrushes between.
The shaped trefoil base has three large oval scenes depicting The trial of Jesus, The Scourging at the Pillar and The Crucifixion. Between each scene are bunches of grapes and wheat.
The edge of the base has three pairs of raised Cherub heads, between which is baroque style decoration.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The centre of Paten has a large raised scene of The Crucifixion with two Angels and the Crown of Thorns.
Chalice Height 32.5cm. Base diameter 16.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 17.5cm. Overall weight 936g.
Complete with brand new lined carrying case.
