Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 8539
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice and Paten were both made by the French silversmiths Martin & Dejean, who worked in Paris during the middle part of the 19th century.
The Chalice and Paten have the French silver hallmark of the period, and both pieces bear the maker's mark.
The Calix has three large rectangular scenes, depicting The Descent from the Cross, Jesus the Good Shepherd and The Pious Pelican.
Between these are Eucharistic symbols of wheat, grapes & bulrushes.
The circular stem and central knop are finished with Baroque style decoration.
The circular base has three large scenes depicting The Nativity, The Way of the Cross and The Crucifixion. Between each scene are bunches of grapes and wheat.
The edge of the base has three pairs of raised winged Cherub heads, between which is baroque style floral decoration.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten, which fits the Chalice well. The centre of Paten has an engraved IHS with Crown of Thorns design.
Chalice Height 32cm. Base diameter 16.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9cm. Diameter of Paten 16.5cm. Overall weight 750g.
Complete with original mushroom shaped case for carrying and storage.
