Antique French Baroque Ciborium Ref 7506
Ornate French Baroque 19th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
Ciborium made by the French Silversmith Alexis Garnier, who worked in Paris during the middle part of the 19th century.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's name.
This is an ornate Ciborium in the Baroque style, finished throughout with rich Baroque style decoration.
The lid is covered with decoration, including three raised figures of St Augustine, St Jerome and St Gregory, with grapes and wheat between.
At the top of the lid are three pairs of raised Cherub heads, surrounding the ornate cross which surmounts the lid.
The calix to the bowl has three oval roundels depicting Faith, Hope and Charity, between which are grapes, wheat and bulrushes.
The large knop has three oval roundels of Christ, Our Lady and St Paul, with decorative work between.
The base has large scenes showing The Flight into Egypt, The Burial of Christ and The Ascension.
The lower edge of the base has three pairs of raised winged Cherubs, with baroque decoration and grapes between.
Overall Height to top of cross 36cm. Diameter of base 17cm; diameter of bowl 13cm; internal depth of bowl 7cm. Overall weight 1,034g.
Complete with original lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
