Exceptional Antique French Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the silversmith Jean-Charles Cahier (1772-1849), who worked in Paris.
Cahier was silversmith to Napoleon 1st and the French Royal Family. On his retirement, Cahier's workshop was passed on to Poussielgue-Rusand.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and the maker's mark. This Chalice and Paten were made during the period 1819-1838.
The calix to the cup is made in fine filigree and decorative work, with bunches of grapes and foliage.
