Antique Gothic Chapel Set Ref 8510 - comprising Chalice & Paten, Ciborium, and Cruets and tray.
19th century French Gothic Chapel Set in solid silver gilt. The set comprises Chalice with Paten, Ciborium and pair of Cruets with Tray.
The set was made by the French Silversmiths Pierre le Rouse (Paris 1887-1912), with the cruets and tray by Demarquet Freres (Paris 1868-1890).
All the pieces are made in solid silver, gilded all over. There are the maker's marks and French hallmark of the period. The cruets are part crystal.
The set is finished with decorative and filigree work, Limoge enamels and cabochon stones.
The Gothic style Chalice has a calix made entirely in fine filigree work.
The circular stem has a central circular knop with engraving incorporating vine leaves and grapes.
The lower part of the stem is engraved and leads to the hexafoil base.
On the upper part of the base, three petals are set with a floral filigree roundel. The other three have Limoge enamels of Our Lord, Our Lady and St Joseph.
The lower part of the base has six semi-circles set with filigree work.
The matching well design Paten has a fine engraving of the Paschal Lamb, surrounded by Gothic decoration and fine beading. It fits the Chalice well.
The height of the Chalice is 25.5cm; the diameter of the base is 15.5cm; the diameter of the top of the cup is 9.5cm.
The diameter of the Paten is 16cm. The overall weight of the Chalice and Paten is 805g.
The Gothic style Ciborium is finished with much fine filigree work. The top of the lid is covered with filigree work, with a decorative cross to the centre.
The bowl has a calix made entirely in fine filigree with much intricate work.
The circular stem has a central circular knop with foliate engraving.
The lower part of the stem is engraved and leads to the hexafoil base.
On the upper part of the base, three petals are set with a floral filigree roundel. The other three have coloured quatrefoil enamels depicting Faith, Hope and Charity.
The lower part of the base has six semi-circles set with filigree work.
The height of the Ciborium to the top of the cross is 32cm; the diameter of the base is 16cm; the diameter of the top of the bowl is 12.5cm; the internal depth of the bowl is 7.5cm.
The wieght of the Ciborium is 958g.
The cruets are made in crystal with silver gilt casing work to the base, lid and handle.
The silver casing is gilded all over. The respective cruets are finished with grapes and bulrushes on the crystal to differentiate them.
To the decorative lid of each cruet is a coloured stone: one in red and one in turquoise. The bases are decorated throughout.
The tray is gilded all over. It has six semi-circular panels of filigree work set round the edge, each finished with a large purple cabuchon stone.
The tray is further finished with fine engraving to the inner edge and fine beading to the outer edge.
The tray measures 28cm x 16cm at the maximum points. The cruets measure 17cm in height. The overall weight of the Cruets with the tray is 733g.
The overall total weight of the whole set is 2,496g.
The set comes complete with the original lined, fitted case, supplied by Le Roux of Paris, to incorporate the whole set.
