Antique French Gothic Ciborium Ref 7499

French Gothic early 20th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
Ciborium made by Amedee Cateland (1879-1938) of Lyon in France, who succeeded the famous French silversmith partnership Armand-Calliat.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's name.
The lid is finished with engraving and is set with four coloured enamels in cross form. The central cross is also finished with enamel work.
The bowl is finished with fine detailed engraving.
The knop has some white enamel work to contrast the gilded decoration.
The circular stem is engraved and leads to decorative the quatrefoil petalled base.
The base is finished with engraving and fine beading, and is set with four large enamels worked in coloured enamel and gilt.
The enamels depict scenes from the life of Our Lady including The Annunciation, The Pieta, The Nativity.
Overall Height to top of cross 26cm. Diameter of base 14.5cm; diameter of bowl 11cm. Overall weight 1,026g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
