Antique Gothic Chalice and Paten Ref 7436
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Gothic style made in solid silver gilt, dating from 1874 approximately.
Both pieces were made by Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824-1899), one of the most highly respected French Ecclesiastical Silversmiths in the second half of the 19th century, he worked in Paris.
Poussielgue-Rusand made many high quality pieces of Church Silver and executed pieces for many famous Churches and institutions.
This Chalice is made from solid silver, gilded all over and is hallmarked with the French silver mark and the maker's name.
The Calix is set with six coloured Gothic style enamels, with Gothic arches below.
The hexagonal stem is finished with engraving, in the centre is the knop which has six further coloured Gothic style enamel decorations.
The lower part of the stem is finished with coloured enamels leading towards the base.
The six petalled base has six further round enamels, depicting the four evangelists with two coloured Gothic crosses between.
The edge of the base has punched Gothic style decoration.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten which fits the Chalice well.
Chalice Height 23.5cm. Base diameter 13.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 14.5cm. Overall weight 681g.
Complete with original lined, fitted carrying case with brass handle and clasps.
This Chalice has its original consecration certificate dated 2nd May 1874.
