Antique Passion Chalice and Paten Ref 8728
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice and Paten were made in France by the silversmith Paul Brunet, who worked in Paris in the second half of the 19th century.
The Chalice and PAten both have the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's mark.
This is a Passion Chalice, with themes of the Passion recurring throughout the piece.
The Calix has three large symbols depicting the sponge and sword, the column and the ladder. Between these are raised winged cherubs.
The circular stem has a large central baroque style knop. This has three further raised winged Cherub heads, with Baroque style decoration between.
The circular base has more themes from the Passion. Three large images depict the hammer, cross and nails, and the crown of thorns. Between each of these are three further raised winged cherubs.
The edge of the base is highly decorative, stepping down to the bottom with fluted decoration.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten, which fits the Chalice well. The centre of Paten has a large scene of the Last Supper worked on the back.
Chalice Height 26cm. Base diameter 16cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 16.5cm. Overall weight 921g.
Complete with original lined carrying case.
