Antique French Romanesque Chalice Ref 8087

Antique French Romanesque Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Made in early 20th century France by the silversmiths Demarquet Freres, who worked in Paris from the mid 19th century onwards.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both pieces bear the Demarquet maker's marks.
A dedication on the base dates from 1931, which is possibly around the time the Chalice was originally made.
Both pieces are finished with two-tone effects throughout, with the gilt contrasting with silver on the designs.
The cup has an image titled 'Pasce Oves Meas' illustrating Christ feeding the sheep. A second image is the Supper at Emmaus and is titled 'Mane Nobiscum Domine'.
Between these images are sheaves of wheat and bunches of grapes.
The circular stem has a knop worked with the text 'Omnia ad Jesum per Mariam'.
The circular base has two further scenes: The Nativity and The Crucifixion, with Latin inscriptions and decorative work to finish.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. It has a PAX, Alpha & Omega worked on the back in the same two-tone style.
Chalice height 17cm. Base diameter 14.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 11.5cm. Diameter of Paten 14cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 676g.
