Antique Austrian Gothic Chalice Ref 8247
Antique Austrian Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice made in Wels/Austria by Karl Heinrich in 1913.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the silver hallmark of the period and both have their maker's marks.
The calix to the cup is made in fine filigree work, with six pointed oval enamels set within.
These finely painted enamels depict six of the Apostles.
The hexagonal stem is finished with engraving. The central circular knop is worked with fine filigree work and has 12 small coloured stones set round the edge.
The hexafoil petalled base has more filigree work to the top, with six further apostles worked in fine coloured enamels within pointed oval filigree surrounds.
The edge of the base is finished with a decorative frieze all round.
The blending well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. It has a finely engraved Gothic cross design to the centre, and it fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 25.5cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 1,092g.
