Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 6266
French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt dating from the early 20th century.
The Chalice and Paten are made in solid silver, hallmarked with the French silver mark throughout, and both pieces are gilded all over. Additionally, the maker's mark is 'F.V.'.
The base is made in hexafoil petalled shape, and is finished with fine decorative engraving. There are three finely coloured enamels, depicting Our Lord, Our Lady & St Joseph.
The stem has more fine engraving work. The knop has six quaterfoil shapes, bearing the letters 'JESUS+' worked in Gothic style.
The cup is finished with the same fine engraving. Round the calix are engraved the words 'hic est enim calix sanguinis mei'.
The matching well shaped Paten has fine Gothic style engraving, with a centre-piece of the Paschal Lamb.
Chalice height 23.5cm. Base diameter 15cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 14.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 696g.
