Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 6973
Large ornate 19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice was made by the French Silversmith Veuve Demarquet, between 1863 and 1868. Demarquet worked in rue des Gravilliers, Paris.
The Chalice is hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period, and bears the maker's name.
The Chalice and Paten are made entirely from solid silver, and both are gilded all over.
On the Calix are three large scenes depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds, The Flight into Egypt, and The Washing of the Disciples' Feet.
Between these scenes is baroque style decorative work.
The round stem leads to the large knop. There are three figures set in the knop: the Resurrected Christ, the Immaculate Conception, and St John.
The bottom of the stem has three large scrolls projecting from it, each set with a raised winged angel head.
The base has three large scenes depicting The Garden of Gethsemene, The Crucifixion and The Deposition of Christ.
The base has a decorative scalloped shaped edge, and is further finished with baroque style decorative work.
Chalice comes with solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The Paten has an IHS engraved to the centre, surrounded with beading work. It fits the Chalice well.
Chalice Height 32.5cm. Base diameter 16.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 16cm. Overall weight 1,099g.
