19th century French Chalice and Paten in Ornate Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice is reputed to have been made by the Caillat family of French Silversmiths, probably between 1850-1860.
This was at the beginning of the Armand-Caillat dynasty of silversmiths, which became one of the most famous and well respected French silversmiths of the 19th century.
The Chalice and Paten have the French silver hallmark of the period, and both pieces also bear the maker's mark.
This Chalice is made in very rich, ornate High Baroque style throughout.
The Calix is made in heavy filigree work, with crosses worked into the design.
The hexagonal stem has a highly decorative knop at the centre, finished with rich baroque scrollage work.
The magnificent base is six sided, with rich decoration throughout.
Three large statues sit on three of petals, depicting Christ the Good Shepherd, Our Lady and Child, and The Supper at Emmaus.
Large beading work finishes the bottom part of the edge, with bunches of grapes in three of the corners.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The centre of Paten has a large raised scene of the The Baptism of Christ.
