Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 8316
Early 19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice and Paten were made in France by the Parisian Silversmith FJ Bertrand-Paraud, during the period 1819-1838
The Chalice and Paten have the French silver hallmark of the period, and both pieces also bear the maker's mark.
The Calix is made in openwork and has large three oval images of Saints depicting Our Lady, St Louis and St Augustine. Between these are friezes of wheat, grapes and bulrushes.
The circular stem has a large central knop decorated with Eucharistic symbols of wheat, grapes and bulrushes.
The circular base has three further oval roundels, these depicting Christ in the garden of Gethsemane, The Way of the Cross and The Crucifixion.
Further Eucharistic symbols are set between these.
The edge of the base is finished with engraving and floral decorations.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The centre of Paten has a large raised scene of Supper at Emmaus.
Chalice Height 30.5cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 16.5cm. Overall weight 922g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
