Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 7275
19th century French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice and Paten both made in France in the late 19th century; both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both pieces bear the maker's initials 'AM'.
The Calix is in filigree work, finished with six coloured enamels of tear-drop shape. The enamels depict Faith, Hope and Charity with Gothic decoration between.
The hexagonal stem is engraved and set with tiers of fine beading.
The circular knop is engraved and is set with six round decorative Gothic enamels.
The petalled base is hexafoil in shape. There are six further tear-drop shaped coloured enamels, depicting The Holy Family with stylised Gothic decoration between.
The edge of the base is finished with coloured enamel work in blues and greens all round the edge, with beading at the edge.
The matching dish shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. It has fine engraving in Gothic style with the Agnus Dei in the centre.
Chalice height 28cm. Base diameter 17cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 16.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 880g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying/storage case.
