Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 7301
Early 20th century French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice and Paten both made in France in the first part of the 20th century by the French Silversmith J Passani.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both pieces bear Passani's maker's mark.
The Chalice is richly decorated with fine enamels throughout, with 12 detailed scenes from the Passion of Christ.
The Calix is in filigree work, and is set with six round enamels of scenes from the Passion.
The decorative stem leads to the hexafoil knop, which is set with six enamels of Cherubs.
The petalled hexafoil base is worked with six further enamels from the Passion.
The edge of the base is decorative in shape with points between the petals.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. It is finished with a large, very fine enamel of The Last Supper.
Chalice height 26cm. Base diameter 16cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 871g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying/storage case.
