Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8318
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice made in France by the French Silversmiths Martin & Lebas, of the latter part of the 19th century.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have their respective maker's marks.
The calix to the cup is made in open tracery work, set with coloured green stones. There are three circular enamels representing the three theological virtues: Faith, Hope & Charity.
The circular stem is finished with fine decoration throughout.
The central circular knop has six circular enamels, worked in colourful Gothic designs; between these are set red and green stones.
The hexafoil petalled base has decoration to each petal, with coloured stones throughout, including a cross from small blues stones to one side.
Three petals have a coloured circular enamel, depicting the Holy Family.
The bottom edge of the Chalice is finished with beading.
The blending dish shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a finely engraved Agnus Dei to the centre.
Chalice height 24.5cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 639g.
Complete with brand new lined case for carrying and storage.
