Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8377
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice made in France by highly renowned French Silversmith Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824-1889).
Blending Paten made in France by the silversmith Demarquet Freres, who worked in Paris in the same period.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, and are gilded.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have their respective maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is made in decorative work with a rim of fine filigree work round the top edge.
The columnar stem leads to the central circular knop, which is worked with six flowers round the centre. More filigree work completes the bottom of the stem.
The circular base is engraved all over, with a fine filigree work edging.
There are four large blue and gold enamels, depicting The Last Supper, The Crucifixion, Christ in the Sepulchre, Christ with St Thomas.
Four small red stones complete the base. The edge of the base steps down with engraving round the bottom step.
The blending well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a contrasting image of the Agnus Dei worked in silver to the centre.
Chalice height 24cm. Base diameter 15cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 14.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 709g.
Complete with original lined, fitted carrying case, covered in red cloth, bearing the maker's name of Poussielgue-Rusand.
