Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8432
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the silversmith L Gille, who worked in Lyon from 1878 onwards.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is made in very fine decorative work. It has grapes and what worked into the foliate design. Six small stones are set round the centre of the Calix.
The hexagonal stem is finely engraved throughout. The central knop is engraved and is set with six diamond shaped lozenges with a quatrefoil engraving.
The pointed hexafoil petalled base has engraving work to the top, with more Eucharistic symbols and a small blue enamelled cross.
The petals are worked in colourful enamels, foliate and grapes on a deep blue background, edged in fine beading.
Between each petal are set purple stones.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has an engraving of the Agnus Dei to the centre, with decoration around.
Chalice height 24.5cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10.5cm. Diameter of Paten 14.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 717g.
Complete with original lined, fitted carrying case.
