Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8441

Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice made in France by the French Silversmith Antoine Jolivet, who worked in Paris from 1857 onwards.
Blending Paten made by the French silversmiths Armand-Calliat (1822-1901).
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have their respective maker's mark.
The Chalice is dedicated to the Litany of Loreto.
The calix to the cup has sheaves of wheat in its design. Four circular enamels depict themes from the Litany of Loreto: 'cedrus exaltata', 'vas spirituale', 'fons hortorum' and 'vas honorabile'.
The circular stem has twisted rope work to finish.
The large central knop has four quatrefoil shaped enamels depicting the Four Evangelists, with large oval coloured stones between.
The shaped quatrefoil petalled base has decorative work throughout. The four petals are set with four further coloured enamels from the Litany of Loreto: 'turris davidica', agnus dei panis vivus', 'speculum justitie' and 'foederis arca'.
The blending well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a finely engraved Marian design of a Cross with M at the base.
Chalice height 25.5cm. Base diameter 16cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 14.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 656g.
Complete with brand new lined case for carrying and storage.
