Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8452
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by highly renowned French Silversmith Armand-Calliat (1822-1901).
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is made in decorative work. It is set with three pointed oval enamels depicting the Holy Family, with three smaller circular Gothic enamels between.
The hexagonal stem is finely engraved throughout. The central knop is engraved and is set with six quatrefoil enamels with Gothic crosses.
The hexafoil petalled base is decorated throughout. It has three large quatrefoil enamels depicting The Nativity, The Crucifixion, and Christ with Jairus'daughter.
Between these are three further small circular enamels worked in coloured Gothic style crosses.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a very fine engraving of the birds drinking from the cup of Salvation to the centre.
Chalice height 24cm. Base diameter 15cm. Diameter of top of cup 10.5cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 1,059g.
Complete with original lined, fitted carrying case, bearing the maker's name of Armand-Calliat of Lyon.
