Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8487
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice and Paten made in France by the silversmiths Favier Freres who worked in France in the second half of the 19th century.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is made in fine filigree work. It is set with three circular finely painted enamels depicting The Nativity, The Flight into Egypt and the Holy Family at home in Nazareth.
The plain circular stem provides contrast for the central knop, which is set with fine filigree work and flowers.
The hexafoil petalled base has filigree work down the stem, which continues onto three petals.
The remaining three petals have fine circular enamels depicting The Annunciation, King St Louis, and St Margaret Alacoque.
Clear stones singly and in a cross form complete the remaining petals.
The edge of the Chalice steps down with beading to the sides.
The matching dish shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a fine engraving of The Agnus Dei to the back.
Chalice height 23.5cm. Base diameter 14.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 655g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
