Antique French Gothic Carmelite Chalice Ref 8506
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt with numerous precious stones.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the French Silversmiths Jules Jamain and Eugene Chevron, who worked in Paris between 1865 and 1879
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
BR>There are numerous precious stones inlaid throughout the Chalice.
The cup has a decorative foliate calix, each petal set with a stone to the centre.
Round the top of the cup is blue and gold enamelled frieze with the words 'hic est enim calix sanguinis mei'.
The stem is formed from six columns.
The hexafoil shaped knop is set with six circular coloured enamels, spelling 'JESUS+'. On the top part of the knop are various medal shaped crosses worked in coloured enamel.
The hexafoil petalled base has decorative work, and is set with many different coloured precious and semi-precious stones, including some in cross formation.
The one petal is a coloured circular enamel with the Carmelite coat of arms.
The matching dish shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a large coloured enamel of the Agnus Dei to the centre.
Chalice height 24.5cm. Base diameter 17cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 15.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 924g.
Complete with brand new lined case for carrying and storage.
