Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8530

Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the silversmith Paul Brunet, who worked in Paris in the second half of the 19th century.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is finely decorated in openwork. Three circular enamels depict three Saints including St Francis and St Paul
The circular stem has a large central circular knop. This has an enamelled frieze round the central band, with decoration above and below.
The hexafoil petalled base is decorative throughout. Three circular enamels depict The Holy Family, Christ teaching the children, and The Crucifixion.
Between these are set three raised gargoyles leading down from the stem.
The edge of the Chalice steps down.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has an enamelled central design of PAX with Alpha and Omega.
Chalice height 25.5cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 1,018g.
Complete with original lined case with Paul Brunet's label.
