Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8568

Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the French Silversmith Leon Kaeppler, who worked in Paris from 1882 onwards.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is made in fine filigree work set with six small turquoise stones round the top.
The circular stem is finished with fine engraving.
The central knop has six circular blue enamels, spelling 'JESUS+'.
The shaped hexafoil petalled base has fine filigree work on three petals, each one set with an amethyst stone. The other three panels have three large coloured oval enamels, depicting The Crucifixion, Our Lady and St Joseph.
The edge of the Chalice is finished with beading and decorative work to the edge.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a finely engraved design of a Gothic style IHS to the centre.
Chalice height 26cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 665g.
Complete with brand new lined case for carrying and storage.
