Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8711
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the French Silversmiths Demarquet Freres who worked in Paris in the second half of the 19th century.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is made in fine filigree work throughout. It has four coloured circular enamels of Saints, including St Bernadette and King St Louis of France.
The columnar shaped stem has small engravings to it. The central quatrefoil knop is finished with decoration and four small circular enamels of Wheat and Grapes.
The pointed quatrefoil petalled base has four quatrefoil coloured enamels, depicting The Crucifixion, Our Lady of Lourdes, St Joseph and The Sacred Heart of Jesus. Between these are ornate branches with bunches of grapes.
The edge of the base is finished with fine filigree work all round.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a circular coloured enamel to the centre of The Agnus Dei, surrounded with a crown of thorns design engraved, with fine beading to the edge.
Chalice height 26cm. Base diameter 16cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 959g.
Complete with brand new lined case for carrying and storage.
