French Romanesque Chalice Ref 7419

French Romanesque Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, part gilded with parts in contrasting silver.
Made by the French silversmith Julien Le Camus, successor of La Maison Le Roux, 34 rue de Rennes à Paris, who was active from 1912 onwards.
Both pieces are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period & bear the maker's name. They were made around 1930.
The Chalice is in Romanesque style; the cup & base are finished with fine silver engraved images of Saints. In between these images is fine decorative work.
The stem is formed from three standing figures, in contrasting silver, of St Peter, St Paul & St John the Evangelist.
The images round the cup and base include The Crucifixion, Our Lady, St Joseph, St John of the Cross, St Clare, St Roche, along with other Saints.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. It has a central engraving of The Scared Heart of Jesus, worked in silver over gilded decorative work.
Chalice height 19.5cm. Base diameter 13.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 11.5cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 1,086g.
