Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 6675
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice was made by the French silversmith Joseph-Philippe-Adolphe Dejean, who worked in rue Notre-Dame, Paris between 1846 and 1865.
Both Chalice & Paten are made from solid silver, hallmarked with the French silver mark and both are gilded all over.
The Calix has three large rounded picture scenes depicting The Agony in the Garden of Gethsemene, Ecce Home, and The way of the Cross (Veronica wipes the face of Jesus). In between these is decorative baroque work incorporating grapes of the vine.
The large knop has three figures depicting The Holy Family.
The base has three large scenes depicting The Adoration of the Shepherds, The Crucifixion and The Resurrection. In between these images are raised panels of decorative work finished with grapes of the vine.
The base is an usual decorative trefoil shape, and is finished with baroque-style decorative work.
Chalice comes with blending solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The centre of Paten has a large raised engraved design of The Last Supper. The Paten is of the same period as the Chalice, and fits it well.
