Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 6698
Early 20th century French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice made by the French silversmiths Demarquet Freres, who worked in Paris, France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Chalice and Paten are both made in solid silver, hallmarked throughout, and both pieces are gilded all over.
The Cup of the Chalice has a Calix finished with engraving work, and bearing the inscription 'Hic Est Enim Calix Sanguinis Mei'.
The circular stem is engraved, and leads to the decorative knop which is finished with engraved crosses, and the initials 'JESUS' worked round the edge.
The base has three fine enamel plaques, set in quatrefoil surrounds, depicting The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady and St Joseph.
The edge of the base is finished in a decorative hexafoil shape, leading down in steps.
The blending dish shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt, made in France of a similar period. It has a large engraving of the Paschal Lamb to the centre, surrounded with the inscription 'Ecce Agnus Dei'.
Chalice height 24.5cm. Base diameter 17cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 16.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 768g.
Complete with 'mushroom' shaped case to fit the Chalice and Paten.
