French Romanesque Chalice and Paten Ref 7700
French Chalice and Paten in Romanesque style made in solid silver gilt.
Chalice made by Demarquet Freres, a family of French silversmiths who worked in Paris from the 19th century onwards.
This Chalice and Paten are made from solid silver, gilded all over. Both pieces are hallmarked with the French silver mark of the period, and both bear their maker's name. The pair were made around 1932.
The cup is finished with an engraved frieze in a floral design.
The stem is circular, and the knop is engraved with 'Hoc Facite in Meam Commemorationem'.
The circular base is set with three finely engraved roundels, depicting The Crucifixion, Christ is laid in the Sepulchre, and the Resurrection. Between these roundels a Crown of Thorns design is engraved.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten which fits the Chalice well.
The Paten has at its centre a finely engraved image of the Agnus Dei, surrounded with the text 'Agnus Dei Panis Vivus'.
Chalice Height 18cm. Base diameter 14cm. Diameter of top of cup 11cm. Diameter of Paten 14cm. Overall weight 613g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
