Irish Sterling Silver Gilt Chalice & Paten Ref 8618
Irish Gothic Chalice & Paten in solid sterling silver.
Chalice and Paten both made by John Smyth and Sons of Dublin in 1956,
Blending solid silver gilt Paten made in Birmingham in 2015.
Chalice and Paten are both hallmarked with Irish sterling silver hallmarks, and both bear the maker's name.
The calix to the cup of the Chalice is finished with fine engraving all over. The top of the calix is festooned, finished with fine beading.
There are 12 oval shaped red stones set into the calix.
The circular stem has a central knop with engraving and six further deep red stones.
The hexafoil petalled base is richly engraved. Designs incorporated into the engraving are Cross, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Sacred Heart of Jesus, IHS and two Saints.
The edge of the base steps down with the petals sitting flat. Each petal has a large amethyst stone with red more red oval stones.
Beading finished the very edge of the base.
The matching dish shaped Paten is in solid silver, gilded all over. It fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 21cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9cm. Diameter of Paten 13cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 747g.
Chalice comes complete with original lined, fitted carrying case, with the John Smyth maker's name.
