English Sterling Silver Chalice with precious stones, Ref 7284

English Gothic Chalice & Paten in solid sterling silver, covered with precious stones.
Chalice made by in London in the first part of the 20th century, by the well renowned Silversmith's Blunt and Wray and is extremely well made.
Chalice and Paten are both hallmarked with English sterling silver hallmarks, and both pieces are gilded throughout.
The knop, stem and base are set with numerous precious stones, forming a very delicate design throughout.
The plain cup leads to the hexagonal stem on which are formed Gothic arches with fine beading work.
The six sided knop has punched decoration, and the six lozenges are each set with a precious stone: 3 diamonds and 3 sapphires.
The base of the stem has more Gothic arches, finished with a collar below with fine filigree work set with stones including numerous diamonds and sapphires.
The six petalled base is very eloquently finished with small stones edging each petal, forming lines of alternating pearls and turquoise, with a diamond at the point of each petal.
In the centre of 5 of the petals is a large sapphire surrounded with fine beading work.
On the sixth petal is a very fine cross made in emeralds and pearls, set on filigree work below. Either side of the cross are two further diamonds.
The edge of the base is finished with rope-work with several steps leading down.
The blending dish shaped Paten is in solid silver throughout. It is gilded all over and engraved with an IHS. It fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 23cm. Base diameter 15cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 930g.
