English Sterling Silver Gilt Chalice & Paten Ref 8866

English Gothic Chalice & Paten in solid sterling silver.
Chalice made in Birmingham, England, in 1916, the silversmith having the initials GJH.
Blending solid silver gilt Paten made in London in 1922 by Blunt and Wray Ltd.
Chalice and Paten are both hallmarked with English sterling silver hallmarks, and both bear their respective maker's marks.
The Chalice is engraved round the top in Gothic style lettering with the words 'Calicem salutaris accipiam et nomen domini invocabo'.
There is a small Calix to the base of the cup, decorated with leaves.
The hexagonal stem is engraved with Gothic style arches all round. The central knop is circular and decorative.
The hexafoil petalled base is finished with Gothic style decoration, with a cross to one side.
The blending dish shaped Paten is in solid silver, gilded all over. It has an engraved Gothic style IHS and it fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 20.5cm. Base diameter 14.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 14cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 577g.
Chalice comes complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
