Victorian English Sterling Silver Gilt Chalice & Paten Ref 8725
Victorian English Gothic Chalice & Paten in solid sterling silver.
Chalice made in Birmingham, England in 1881, with the maker's initials 'J.W'.
Blending solid silver gilt Paten made in Birmingham in 2015.
Chalice and Paten are both hallmarked with English sterling silver hallmarks.
The Chalice is engraved round the top in Gothic style lettering with the words 'Calicem salutaris accipiam et nomen domini invocabo'.
The small calix at the base of the cup is decorative and incorporates bunches of grapes.
The hexagonal stem is engraved throughout. The hexafoil central knop has six circular coloured enamels spelling 'JESUS+' in Gothic style lettering.
The hexafoil petalled base is decorative and has a circular coloured enamel on each petal. The designs include Cross, Fleur de Lys, AM, IHS, Agnus Die and Pious Pelican.
The edge of the base steps down with fine beading round to finish.
The blending dish shaped Paten is in solid silver, gilded all over. It has large Gothic IHS design to the centre. The Paten fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 21cm. Base diameter 14.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 721g.
Chalice comes complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
