Antique solid silver Baroque Monstrance Ref 8673
Solid silver gilt 19th century French sunburst Monstrance, complete with solid silver Lunette.
Made in solid silver and gilded throughout, the Monstrance & Lunette were made by the French silversmith family, Favier who worked in Lyon, France in the second half of the 19th century.
The Monstrance is hallmarked throughout with the French 19th century silver mark and the maker's name.
The top half of the Monstrance is a large baroque sunburst with rays. These are surmounted with a decorative cross to the top.
The central Gloria is surrounded with clouds in which are four large raised Cherub heads. The Gloria has small clear stones set all round the centre.
The stem is formed from a large standing winged Angel, who points upwards to the heavens.
The four sided base is decorated on each of the sides. On the front, there is a scene of the Last Supper, and at the back, the Agnus Dei. To each side are sheaves of wheat and grapes of the vine.
The edge of the base is decorated with engraving and bunches of grapes all round.
The Monstrance stands on four decorative baroque feet, with festoons of flowers hanging down between.
The Monstrance comes complete with solid silver Lunette, fully enclosed with glass on both sides.
The height is 93cm. The width across the sunburst top is 45.5cm & the base is 26.5cm x 23cm across the maximum points. The internal diameter of the Lunette is 9cm. The weight of the Monstrance is 3.4kg.
The Monstrance comes complete with brand new lined, fitted case.
