Antique solid silver Sunburst Monstrance Ref 6657

Solid silver gilt 19th century French sunburst Monstrance, complete with solid silver Lunette and original fitted carrying case.
Made by the French Silversmith, Pierre-Henry Favier (1809-1894), a well-known Silversmith in Paris.
In addition to the maker's mark, the Monstrance & Lunette are hallmarked throughout with the French 19th century silver mark.
This is a richly decorated sunburst style Monstrance, finished with fine enamels, standing figures and filigree work.
The sunburst is surmounted with a futher layer of filigree work, incorporating grapes and foliage.
Around the central glass, are eight coloured, domed circular enamels. Four are representing the Four Evangelists, each with a decorative Gothic style enamel set between.
The central glass is finished with small silver gilt flowers set onto the glass. On the reverse side of the Monstrance, a further decorative circle surrounds the glass.
The sunburst is surmounted with an enamelled Crucifix, finished with coloured enamel and decorative silver work.
The circular stem is finished with fine engraving work. The central knop is finished with six blue and red enamels with a Gothic Cross design.
The hexafoil shaped base is richly decorated.
Three large standing statues depict the three Holy Virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity.
In between these statues are three coloured enamels depicting Our Lord, Our Lady and St Joseph.
The Monstrance stands on six decorative feet. Three large feet are made from gargoyles, with three smaller feet in between each.
The Monstrance comes complete with solid silver Lunette, enclosed with glass.
The height is 73cm. The width across the sunburst top is 36cm & the base is 22.5cm across the maximum points. The weight of the Monstrance is 2,625g.
The Monstrance has its original lined, fitted case.
