Austrian Antique Byzantine style Ciborium Ref 8489
Antique Austrian Ciborium in solid silver gilt, early 20th century.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the Austrian hallmark of the period.
The lid is finished with engraving and decorative work, set with six coloured stones, edged with fine beading.
The lid is surmounted with a four sided cross to the top.
The bowl has a calix with engraving and decoration. Three large coloured quatrefoil shaped enamels, set on silver background, depicting The Nativity, The Crucifixion and The Resurrection.
Round the top of the Calix, are the Latin words 'Qui me in venerit in veniet vitam et hauriet salutem a domino' (Prov VIII 2,3). The calix is finished with numerous coloured stones.
The circular stem is set wiht a large knop, finished with engraving and six small red stones.
The large circular base is finished with further engraving and decoration. Three large coloured quatrefoil shaped enamels depict images of The Sacred Heart of Jesus, The Sacred Heart of Mary, and St Joseph with child.
Round the edge of the base is the text 'Adoro te devote latens deitas quae sub his figuris vere latitas', with coloured stones set between.
Overall Height to top of cross 32cm. Diameter of base 18.5cm; diameter of bowl 15cm; internal depth of bowl 9cm. Overall weight 1,509g.
This is a good size Ciborium with a large host capacity.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
