Antique French Baroque Ciborium Ref 7807
Large and Ornate French Baroque 19th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
Ciborium made by the French Silversmith Alexis Renaud, who worked in Paris from 1831 to 1847.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's name.
This is a large and impressive Ciborium made in the Baroque style and richly decorated throughout.
The lid has three oval roundels, depicting Faith, Hope & Charity. Between these are the symbols of grapes, wheat & bulrushes.
The lid is surmounted with a large decorative cross, at the base of which are four raised winged cherubs.
The bowl has three large oval roundels, depicting The Nativity, The Presentation & Christ Teaching in the Temple. Between these roundels are grapes, wheat & bulrushes.
The large knop has three pairs of raised winged cherubs, with decorative work between.
The circular base has three further roundels, depicting The Annunciation and two scenes from The Nativity. Between these are large raised winged Cherub heads.
The lower part of the base is finished with engraving work, beading, and three pairs of raised winged Cherub heads.
Overall Height to top of cross 40cm. Diameter of base 17.5cm; diameter of bowl 13.5cm; internal depth of bowl 7cm. Overall weight 1,713g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
