Large and Ornate French Baroque 19th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
Ciborium made by the highly renowned French Silversmith Armand-Calliat of Lyon.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's name.
This is a large and impressive Ciborium made in the Baroque style and richly decorated throughout.
The lid has three pairs of raised Cherub heads, with baroque decoration between. It is surmounted with a large decorative cross.
The bowl has three large scenes relating to St John the Baptist: The Visitation, St John the Baptist with the Christ Child and The Baptism of Christ.
Between these scenes are large pairs of raised cherub heads and decorative work.
The large knop has three pairs of raised winged cherubs, with decorative work between.
The circular decorative shaped base has three large biblical scenes, depicting Christ at the well with the Samaritan woman, The Supper at Emmaus, Christ with the Disciples.
Between these scenes are large bunches of grapes and decoration.
The lower part of the base has decorative work all round, and a shaped finish to the edge.
Overall Height to top of cross 31cm. Diameter of base 17.5cm; diameter of bowl 12cm; internal depth of bowl 6cm. Overall weight 742g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
