Antique French Baroque Ciborium Ref 7819
Ornate French Baroque 19th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
Ciborium made by the French Silversmiths Martin & Dejean who worked in Paris during the middle part of the 19th century.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's name.
This is a very ornate Ciborium in the Baroque style, finished throughout with rich Baroque style decoration.
The lid is finished with baroque decorative work, and has a large ornate cross at the top.
The calix to the bowl has three shields illustrating Instruments of the Passion, including Crown of Thorns, Spear, Nails and Hammer.
Between each shield is ornate decoration, and around the top are three pairs of raised cherub heads.
The stem is worked around 3 large winged angels forming the entire stem, with decoration between.
The base has three large raised seated figures, depicting Faith, Hope and Charity.
The lower edge of the base has more baroque style decoration to the edge.
Overall Height to top of cross 30.5cm. Diameter of base 15.5cm; diameter of bowl 12cm; internal depth of bowl 7cm. Overall weight 1,008g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
