Antique Belgian Ciborium Ref 7488
Ornate Belgian 19th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
Ciborium made by the Ecclesiastical Silversmith Bourdon of Ghent around 1895.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the hallmarks of the period, and the maker's name.
The Ciborium was given by Baron van Calven and his wife (nee Countess of Gourcy-Serainchamps) to the Carmel at Uccle in Belgium, on the 25th Anniversary of their daughter, Mother M.J. of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This inscription is dated August 25th 1895.
The lid is set with six coloured stones, and worked with engraving. It has a very fine, large crucifix at the top.
The bowl is finished with corresponding engraving and coloured stones to the underside to mirror the decoration on the lid.
The circular stem leads to the knop which is finished with more decoration and six further sones.
The hexafoil petalled base is set with six coloured enamels, mounted in fine beading, with decoration between.
The enamels depict the four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a Coat of Arms.
Overall Height to top of cross 33cm. Diameter of base 16cm; diameter of bowl 11.5cm. Overall weight 873g.
