French Antique Gothic Ciborium Ref 8524
French Gothic 19th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the French silver hallmark of the period.
The lid is finished with 3 quatrefoil blue and gold enamels of three Saints, between which are set three oval amethysts and decorative work.
The lid is surmounted with an ornate cross set with red stones.
The edge of the lid is finished with fine beading work round the edge.
The bowl has a calix made in decorative work. Three circular blue and gold enamels depict Faith, Hope and Charity, with coloured stones set between.
The hexagonal stem is finished with engraving work.
The large hexafoil knop is set with six coloured stones and decorative work.
The hexafoil petalled base is set with three further blue and gold enamels in quatrefoil shape, depicting The Holy Family. Three oval amethysts are set between with decorative work around.
The edge of the base steps down with punched crosses all round the bottom edge, and fine beading to finish.
Overall Height to top of cross 34cm. Diameter of base 16.5cm; diameter of bowl 12cm; internal depth of bowl 7cm. Overall weight 866g.
Complete with original lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
