Irish Sterling Silver Ciborium Ref 8919
Irish solid sterling silver gilt Ciborium, made in Dublin in 1914 by John Smyth and Sons.
The Ciborium is completely solid silver. It is gilded all over. It bears the sterling silver hallmark throughout and the maker's marks.
The lid is surmounted with a decorative cross.
The lid itself has six panels, worked with images alternating between wheat and grapes.
The calix to the bowl has six larger panels, also with the wheat and grapes designs alternating, separated with decoration.
The hexagonal stem is engraved in lattice work. The central circular knop has six oval panels, each with a decorative cross.
The hexafoil petalled base has six panels, worked with a Cross, IHS, with grapes and wheat between.
The edge of the base steps down and has flowers and engraving round the steps.
Overall Height to top of cross 27cm. Diameter of base 16cm; diameter of top of bowl 10cm. Internal depth of bowl 6.5cm. Overall weight 642g.
