Solid silver gilt 19th century French sunburst Monstrance, complete with solid silver Lunette.
Made in solid silver and gilded throughout, the Monstrance & Lunette were made by the French silversmith's Favier Freres, who worked in Lyon ,France in the second half of the 19th century.
The Monstrance is hallmarked throughout with the French 19th century silver mark and the maker's name.
The top half of the Monstrance is a large baroque sunburst with rays. These are surmounted with a decorative cross to the top.
The central Gloria is surrounded with clouds in which are three large raised Cherub heads. The Gloria has small red stones set all round the centre.
The stem is formed with sheaves of wheat, leading to a bouquet of wheat and grapes at the top.
The circular stem has a very large knop. This has two large winged angel heads, one to each side. In the centre is an image of the Pious Pelican to the front and the Holy Spirit to the back.
The four sided base has a scene to each of the sides. These depict The Last Supper, The Way of the Cross, Agnus Dei and Christ before Pontius Pilate.
The edge of the base is finished with rich baroque style decoration all round.
In each of the four corners is a large raised winged cherub head, below each of which is a clawed foot.
The Monstrance comes complete with solid silver Lunette, fully enclosed with glass on both sides.
The height is 100.5cm. The width across the sunburst top is 51.5cm & the base is 30.5cm x 26cm across the maximum points. The internal diameter of the Lunette is 8cm. The weight of the Monstrance is 4,100g.
