Antique Gothic Silver Gilt Monstrance Ref 7734
Solid silver gilt Monstrance in Gothic style, complete with Lunette, Pyx and Case.
The Monstrance was made in Gand (Ghent), Belgium, and bears the maker's name reading 'de Gauter, Gand'
The Monstrance is made in solid silver and is gilded all over.
It is made in Gothic style, with Gothic arches, pinnacles, statues and engraving.
The top of the Monstrance is surmounted with a Gothic style cross.
Under the central pinnacles at the top is a standing figure of The Sacred Heart of Jesus.
To the sides of the Gloria are standing figures of two winged Angels.
The Gloria is cylindrical in shape, and has glass to the front. It has a fine castellated finish to the top and bottom. The holder for the Lunette is worked with decorative floral work.
The hexagonal stem has Gothic engraved arches. The central knop is finished with six large red stones.
The hexagonal petalled base is engraved all over. On each petal is an engraved roundel, these depict The Crucifixion, St Joseph and the Four Evangelists.
The Monstrance height is 67.5cm. The width across the centre part is 22cm & the base is 21cm diameter. The Gloria measures 7cm across internally.
The Pyx with the Monstrance is solid sterling silver gilt, made in Birmingham in 1921. It has a cross to the front. The Pyx measures 13cm in height.
The original solid silver gilt Lunette is enclosed, with glass to the front side. The internal diameter of the Lunette is 6.5cm. It fits both the Pyx & Monstrance well.
The Monstrance weighs 2,157g by itself. The total combined weight of the Monstrance with Pyx & Lunette, is 2,569g.
The Monstrance has its original carrying case.
